Savinjska regija ima izjemno strateško lego. Umeščena je v središče
Slovenije, skoznjo potekajo pomembne mednarodne cestne in železniške
povezave. Središče regije je Celje, ki skozi svojo bogato zgodovino
ohranja pomembno poselitveno, gospodarsko in prometno vlogo.
Regija
se od severozahoda proti jugovzhodu razprostira vse od mogočnih
Kamniško-Savinjskih Alp ter čudovitih dolin in gozdov Zgornje Savinjske
doline, do Šaleškega in s hmeljem rodovitne Spodnje Savinjske doline pa
vse do Osrednje Celjskega in Dravinjskega z bogatim Pohorjem ter
gričevnatega Kozjanskega in Obsotelja.
Savinjska regija je ena
izmed dvanajstih regij Slovenije, po velikosti pa je tretja izmed vseh.
Velikost regije: 2.301 km2, kar predstavlja 11,4 % površine Slovenije. V
regiji je 253.845 prebivalcev oziroma 12,4 % slovenskega prebivalstva.
Največji urbani in gospodarski središči v regiji sta Celje in Velenje.
Občinska središča s statusom mesta so Laško, Rogaška Slatina, Slovenske
Konjice, Šentjur in Žalec, ostala občinska središča pa so še Braslovče,
Dobje, Dobrna, Gornji Grad, Kozje, Ljubno, Luče, Mozirje, Nazarje,
Podčetrtek, Polzela, Prebold, Rečica ob Savinji, Rogatec, Solčava,
Šmarje pri Jelšah, Šmartno ob Paki, Šoštanj, Štore, Tabor, Vitanje,
Vojnik, Vransko in Zreče
Organiziranost
V Savinjsko regijo je vključenih 31 občin. Status mestne občine imata
Celje in Velenje. Za večjo razvojno učinkovitost Savinjska regija
uveljavlja delovanje petih subregij:
- Savinjsko-Šaleška,
- Spodnje Savinjska,
- Osrednje
Celjska
- Dravinjska,
- Obsoteljsko Kozjanska
S tem regija ohranja svojo bogato etnološko
dediščino in poudarja raznolikost svojih območij kot razvojno prednost.
Svet Savinjske regije, ki ga predstavljajo županja in župani vseh občin,
sprejema najpomembnejše družbeno-razvojne odločitve.
Regija ima tudi
svoj razvojni svet. Status subjekta spodbujanja razvoja regije ima RASR,
Razvojna agencija Savinjske regije, ki skrbi tudi za tehnično in
strokovno podporo Svetu regije.

Savinjska
region has a very strategic location. It's located in the heart of Slovenia and
spans
from the
Austrian to the Croatian border. Through the region runs major international
road and railway connections. The region is named after the alpine river
Savinja, which runs through the region from its spring to its end. Savinja is
also the longest river that flows only through Slovenian territory.
Celje is the
centre of the region. It lies next to the river Savinja and through its rich
history maintains its important settlement, economic and transport role.
The region
offers many diverse experiences. The region is extending from the northwest to
the southeast, all the way from the mighty Kamnik-Savinja Alps, through the beautiful
valleys and forests of the Upper Savinja Valley, to the Šalek Valley with its
plentiful energy sources and Lower Savinja Valley known for its hops
production, the region spans on, encompassing the historic treasures of Central
Celje, Dravinjsko with the stunning forests of Pohorje and the rolling hills of
the sun-soaked Obsotelje and Kozjansko.
The Savinjska
region is one of the twelve statistical regions of Slovenija, by the size is a
third of all. The size of the region is
2.301 km2, which represents 11,4% area of Slovenia. The region had 254.824
(1.7.2016) inhabitants or 12,3% of the slovenian population. The largest
urban and economic centers in the region is Celje and Velenje. Municipal
centers with the status of the city are Laško, Rogaška Slatina, Slovenske
Konjice and Žalec, other municipal centers are Braslovče, Dobje, Dobrna, Gornji
Grad, Kozje, Ljubno, Luče, Mozirje, Nazarje, Podčetrtek, Polzela, Prebold, Rečica ob Savinji, Rogatec,
Solčava, Šmarje pri Jelšah, Šmartno ob Paki,
Šoštanj, Štore, Tabor, Vitanje, Vojnik, Vransko and Zreče.
To increase
its developmental efficiency, the region is divided into five subregions: Dravinjska,
Savinjsko-Šaleška, Spodnje Savinjska, Obsoteljsko Kozjanska and Central Celje
subregion. There are 31 municipalities in the region. With this the region
maintains its rich ethnological heritage and highlights the diversity of its
sites as a development priority.
